menorah and sing the songs that tell
the tale of our redemption. This is not
only the story of long ages ago, but the
story of my father and grandfathers
generation, who survived and managed
to raise themselves against the odds.
As we go about our days in this
decadent time, it is easy to forget that
we are still in golus. Technology has
simplified things and luxuries abound
to the point that we are nestled in a life
of comfort and oblivion. Sometimes we
can be lulled into a sense of well being
and security and golus becomes just a
catchphrase and not a reality that we
should bemoan every day.
We still need a yeshua from the clutches
of golus. We live amongst corruption,
without the tangible spirituality of the
Bais Hamikdash in our midst. Yes, we
are fortunate to live in a world rich in
torah and chesed and chinuch, but we
have so much more to strive for. We
need to continue building it until it
reaches the heights that the previous
generation dreamed possible.

Continuation from pg. 36
As we thank Hashem for the nissim he
granted us during the time of Chanukah
we should yearn for those same
miracles today. Do we have the same
strength of the previous generation to
rise above? They built from nothing,
but they left us this foundation to
continue building on. A gift without
bounds to finish what they started and
bring about true geula. We are still in
golus, still waiting for what they prayed
would happen, if not then, then at least
in our time. Though it’s easy to forget
amid the cocoon of this modern world,
we cannot stop yearning.
Now, my future upon me, I continue to
carry on the traditions of Chanukah
with my family. With age, I am more
aware of the history of our recent past.
In the flickering glow of the candles I
feel the full weight of the nes we are
celebrating. Not
only the gift
that Hashem
bestowed
upon them,
but the
strength
that they
carried
within
them.
